October events in Birmingham
Comedy shows are a great way to break the ice with friends and there’s a whole festival of funnies coming to Birmingham in October. Headline acts include the Hairy Bikers, Seann Walsh and John Bishop off of the TV!
A Taste of Solihull 5- 7 Oct
Why not create your own Social around this fun festival which offers a great fusion of food, music and world-wide entertainment. Spend a relaxed afternoon checking out the culinary markets offering a plethora of cuisine from around the world with a helping of music and dance thrown in for good measure! There’s also a demo kitchen where chefs will showcase their favourite dishes for you to taste and try.
If a good book’s more your thing don’t miss this festival where you’ll have the chance to hear famous authors and faces from Simon Armitage to Caitlin Moran, Stuart Maconie and David Edgar discussing their books. There will also be creative writing workshops for budding authors.
Fan of history? During October this fascinating National Trust endeavour offers you the chance to visit and stay in a carefully restored, atmospheric 19th-century courtyard of working people’s houses. Take an evocative step back in time and find out what it was really like to live in Birmingham during the 1840s while learning about the lives of former residents who lived crammed into these tiny back to back houses.
Supersonic Festival 19 – 21 Oct
An eclectic mix of art, music, film and crafts this famous festival is hitting Birmingham again for its tenth anniversary. Focused around the Custard Factory the festival showcases crazy, experimental acts such as Modified Toy Orchestra, who create their electronic instruments out of abandoned children’s toys. There’s also Reverse Karaoke, which allows you to record your own music inside a Yurt, decorate your own CD sleeve and take the music home with you to keep. And that’s just for starters, the festival is literally bugling at the seams with exciting subversive acts – it’ll certainly be a talking point!
