citysocializer recommends the UK’s best Christmas popups

Things to do

Popups are still all the rage for shoppers across the Capital and the rest of the UK, and this Christmas season is no different. We’ve had a look at the best ones so that you can get your presents sorted and get into the festive spirit! Don’t say we don’t do anything nice for you…

Christmas Market at Factory 7, London

The Secret Emporium, the team behind Secret Garden Party festival are taking over Factory 7 in Shoreditch, showcasing the hottest talent among independent British designers. The immersive event will greet shoppers with interactive performers embodying a Dr.Zhivago vibe with a Secret Emporium David Bowie twist! Sounds pretty cool to us! As well as live bands there will be mulled cider and roasted chestnuts; lanterns; and carols around the piano.

10.30am – 8pm, on 15th & 16th December

Christmas Films Popup in a Chapel, London

Not to go too East London on your asses Experience Cinema, the guys behind Rooftop Film Club are screening two festive favourites this weekend – Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life at The Round Chapel in Hackney. There will be a Winter Wonder Cafe with lots of hot winter warmers and yummy Christmas snacks. Remember to wrap up warm though! Tickets from £8.50.

14th & 15th December

Secret Circus, Cabot Circus, Bristol

From retro gaming, to sewing workshops this multi-functional Christmas popup shop in central Bristol is the ideal festive funhouse you need this season. With plenty of unique gifts on offer including antiques, children’s toys, comics, books and prints, Secret Circus is definitely the one-stop popup shop for all your Christmas shopping needs. There are also plenty of events happening including scrabble nights, workshops, acoustic performances, quizzes and photography classes meaning Secret Circus is definitely a popup to keep popping back to!

Après Ski Popup, Manchester

Dreaming of going skiing this winter? We all know that the après ski is the best bit so pay a visit to The Ski Club, a glamorous popup après-ski bar for groups of 10-100 in Manchester city centre. Inspired by the chalets of Courchevel and Verbier, it has fur throws, Scandi furniture and punch bowls of Grand Marnier, red wine and clementines to share. Fondue and bratwurst, mulled wine and alpine lagers are also on the menu, or, for large groups, whole suckling pig.

Digmas at the Custard Factory, Birmingham

The Custard Factory in Birmingham are hosting ‘Digmas’, a free street festival offering visitors a chance to do their Christmas shopping at independent stores and jewellery, vintage clothing and record fairs. Adding to the atmosphere will be live music, street art and poetry slams. On the food front, there will be gourmet street grub (including reindeer burgers – don’t tell Rudolf) and a bar serving festive cocktails, hot toddies and mulled wine.

The Christmas Arcade at Somerset House

If you are lucky enough to be going ice skating at Somerset House in London, be sure to ‘pop’ in (sorry!) to the popup mall they have created next to the rink. Celebrating the best of British design the mall will be selling winter accessories, jewellery, artisan furniture, gift sets and decorations from exclusively British boutique brands including Handmade in Britain, Tatty Devine, Electrum Gallery and Monster Supplies.

If you can’t get enough of popups we’d recommend reading the London Popup blog here which has all the latest news on short-lived shops and events! As always let us know if you find any of your own recommended popups!
