How To Have A Christmas Day Out In London Guide

Things to do

Can you have too many Christmas activities in the same day? We think not, so we made a plan for a Christmas day out in London that will take you through five of London’s must see Christmas destinations.

1. Waterloo/Southbank

Start off your day at Waterloo station and Southbank Christmas market. Walk around the stalls and grab some breakfast. If you feel like a mulled wine would be perfect at the start of the day we’re not going to judge.

2. Sommerset House Ice Skating

Time for a proper activity. Make sure you have your slot booked in advance and get ready to pretend you’r the most elegant figure skater. Or just go around slowly holding your friends’ hands. Either way it’s going to be a good laugh. You can also pick up some presents from Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade and have a hot chocolate to warm you up.

3. Leicester Square Market

Walk towards Trafalgar Square and up to Leicester Square, which has now turned into a Christmas market. Since that’s a smaller one it shouldn’t take you to long to look around the stalls, maybe get another mulled wine and continue your walk.

4. Green Park/Hyde Park

Walk towards Green Park and spend some time enjoying being outdoors before heading to Hyde Park and Winter Wonderland.

5. Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is full of things to do, food, drinks, sweets, rides and live music. What we would recommend though is to get tickets for one of the special events within Winter Wonderland, see the ice sculptures in the Deep Sea Adventure or catch a showing of Cinderella on Ice. Once you are tired of walking around and going on rides, you need to have a bratwurst at the Bavarian Village and some hot cider.

6. Christmas Lights

Get off Winter Wonderland from the Marble Arch side and start walking back towards Oxford Circus. By now all the lights should be on, looking beautiful. See the lights along Oxford Street, Bond Street, Carnaby and Regent Street and then walk towards Seven Dials and Covent Garden for, you guessed it, even more Christmas lights.

Then find a nice pub and end your day with some nice drinks. There may even be a citysocializer social going on near you so have a look for something you can join without having to worry about making any other plans.
