Didn’t make it to a festival this summer? Or just desperate to get the wellies on one last time before they’re packed away for another year (because they only come out in summer obviously) – well there’s still hope. To help with your festival withdrawal and ease the transition from field back to dingy pub basement, citysocializer have rounded up our top 4 festivals you can still pay, beg or blag your way into:
Where: Isle of Wight
When: 5th – 8th September
What to expect: One the best known UK festivals on the scene turns 10 this year and following tradition it’s another fancy dress extravaganza, this year themed HMS Bestival. Forget the wellies, get your deck shoes on, and sailor suits at the ready – withElton John headlining you hardly need an excuse to don your most flamboyant glad rags. Other artists to take to the main stage include Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion as he’s know known), The Flaming Lips, Rudimental and Disclosure.
In the Woods
Where: Secret woodland location 1 hour south of London
When: 30th – 31st August
What to expect: Have to be quick on this one they’re opening the gates a day early so you can get the heaving lugging out the way and enjoy your full saturday experience at this intimate boutique festival. Set in a forest illuminated by fairy lights and art installations, it’s like no other festival you’ll of been to this summer, expect a folky lineup of bands you haven’t heard and a laid-back friendly atmosphere.
Austin City Limits
Where: Austin, Texas
When: 4th-6th & 13th – 13th October
What to expect: If you’re looking to go a little further afield, some guaranteed sunshine and a 12 hour flight, Austin City Limits is our pick of the upcoming stateside festivals. The lineup is one of the most diverse we’ve seen all summer however it’s our very own brit rockers Muse, The Cure and Arctic Monkeys who top the bill. Away from the festival there’s plenty to do in Austin and the on site art market should keep you entertained between sets.
Where: Roundhouse, London
When: 1st – 30th September
What to expect: A festival of sorts, iTunes are giving away tickets for the series of gigs taking place every night throughout Septmeber. With legends such as Elton John, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake taking to the stage you can expect some big performances and even bigger entourages in tow. Jake Bugg who last year supported The Killers has his own headline slot and we’re especially excited for the likes of Bastille, Chic and Avicci. Tickets are like gold dust and in previous years we’ve had more luck winning tickets from third parties so make sure you enter every competition going and good luck!
