Things to Do: The UK’s Best Sporting Challenges 2013

Things to do

Whether you’re planning on getting yourself into shape, want to raise money for charity or just fancy taking up a new hobby. Signing yourself up for a sporting challenge is a great way to get active and meet some new people. citysocializer have compiled a list of our favourite activities taking place this summer (we compile, we don’t partake) why not get a group together and sign up for some sporting fun:

What: Tough Muddertough

Where: Locations across the UK

When: Various dates from May – September

They don’t come much more hardcore than this. A 12-mile long obstacle course involving mud, fire, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity (what!?!) designed by the Special Forces it’s definitely not one for rookies, however it is great for those with a sense of adventure and who don’t mind getting filthy.

What: The London Marathonmarat

Where: Across the Capital

When: 21st April

The ballot for the 2013 Marathon is now closed, however you can still get a spot by running on behalf of a major charity, most of the big charities have a set number of entry places reserved for those that pledge to raise a specified amount, so not only will it earn you major bragging rights if you manage to complete it, it’s also a great way to give something back.

What: The Tweed Runtweed

Where: London

When: 13th April

For anyone who loves Fancy dress and is in it for the fun over the fitness, the tweed run is the one for you.  Whether your preferred mode of transport is a Penny Farthing or a Boris Bike, anyone can join as long as they come dressed in traditional cycling attire and plenty of – you guessed it – tweed.

What: London 2 Brighton Challengebrightn

Where: London to Brighton

When: May 25-26th

100km from London to Brighton – most people will walk the distance, but if ultra marathons are your cup of tea, no one’s going to stop you leaving the others to eat your dust. It takes place on May bank holiday weekend, so if you do manage to make it to the finish line and the sun’s out you can even treat yourself to a winners meal of fish n’ chips at the seaside.

What: Manchester to Blackpool Night Rideheart

Where: Manchester to Blackpool

When: 28th-29th September

Kicking off at 11pm this cycle through the night will take you from the bright lights of Manchester’s Trafford Centre, to the brighter lights of the Blackpool illuminations. But don’t let that put you off – it’s another great way to raise a few quid for the British Heart Foundation.

What: The Big Fun Runfunrun

Where: Leeds

When: Saturday 24th August

Because everyone can manage a 5k right…. Right?!?!?!
