Stuck for ideas for the weekend? citysocializer’s weekly roundup of the latest new bar and restaurant openings, pop-ups and social events is here to inspire you. This week it’s dogs, gin and Zombies – what else!?
Nothing here you fancy? Check out last weeks new bar openings in Liverpool, Manchester and London.
Dogs n Dough, Manchester
Feeling the effects (on our now protruding stomachs) of the wave of American style burger joints, 12oz patties and deep friend ‘everything’ that’s swept the UK over the past year – you can imagine our relief on hearing of a new trend rising from the ashes of all those dead cows. Well that trend has hit Manchester so prepare for change, big change you’re about to tuck into delicious healthy… hot dogs. Hmmmm, looks like the stretchy pants are here to stay – Dogs n Dough is the latest joint to open up on Bow Road, serving, you guessed it – hot dogs, pizzas, killer cocktails and frosty beers. We can’t wait to check it out.

Gin and Tonic Fever, London
Imagine hearing the sentence ‘Fancy drinking gin for charity?’ and it not being a (crap) joke, well you just did and it’s not. This month Fever Tree are combining two great things in one unique fusion of goodwill and alcohol. Next Thursday 26th September we’re calling for you to give money to charity – not spend it on drinking, there’s a big difference. For your £20 donation you’ll be treated to a G&T on arrival, an Ultimate G&T guide, master classes, garden tours and the opportunity to sample as many G&T combinations as you like.. But also you’ll be giving to charity.. We must remember the charity part. This unique event takes place in the beautiful botanical gardens of Chelsea Physic Garden and boats the largest collection of gins from around the globe to be tasted under on roof.. Oh and did we mention it’s for Charity, ‘Malaria No More UK’ to be precise.

Zombie Shack, Manchester
There seems to be Tikki bars popping up here, there and bloomin everywhere at the moment, but we’re not complaining, far from it in fact, especially as the nights draw in and we look for exotic drinking dens to transport us from the grim streets of Manchester to a more tropical climate. Let’s hope new venue Zombie Shack have got the heating cranked up then as they’ve just open their doors just off Oxford road. They’ll be serving up a mixture of rum based flaming cocktails, reggae and hip hop – pass us our grass skirts.

Merchants Tavern, London
Opening late September in Shoreditch the Merchants Tavern aims to create a ‘neighbourhood restaurant and bar ‘ – which we’re presuming means a friendly welcoming atmosphere, rather than a strict door policy on Brick Lane hipsters. The Italian, Spanish and French inspired seasonal menu boasts just a few dishes at a time so we expect what they do do, they’ll do well. They’re open for lunch and dinner and have a great variety of wines, beers and cocktails depending on what you fancy. Plus if you sign up to their mailing list asap you might just bag 50% off food during their soft launch. Quick!
